No Correct feature on the 1501 – Now I’ve modded the 1901 with a battery

Scrolling and editing the previous values is the whole point, why did your remove the blue correct buttons on the 1501??? You should of lost the margin and memory buttons and kept the CORRECT buttonI didn’t want the larger machine or an AC power cord, it’s going back. Bad marketing decision! My saga continues….So I returned it and bought the larger and i’ve been inspired by the other guy who added the battery pack except I didn’t want it external and there is a ton of room inside the unit and turns out a 6v lump battery fits perfectly!https://www.amazon.com/Powerhobby-1600mAh-Receiver-Battery-Charger/dp/B07GH882PWI've moved the red wire intentionally to the other connector because the charging voltage is 12V, so you can’t use it while charging and the middle connector is disconnected when the adapter is inserted.I’ve also spliced the adapter in so the cable is now long enough, but again with 1600mah I won’t need it often!Note as the other modded pointed out, Positive is on the outside and the tip is negative which means the white dotted side of the black cable goes to Red – see pic of adapter and shrink wrap.Cost me an extra 20 bucks, but now I’m Happy 🙂

    Not the best.

I bought this thinking it would be great to have one that is electronic, but I actually like the paper feeder one by Sharp. The screen seems small.

    Nice paperless calculator

This calculator is exactly what we were looking for. It functions just the same as the ones with the paper without all the paper. Does exactly what my office manager needs. Also very nice that it is battery operated and does not need to be plugged in.

    Beginner

I recently helped my husband open up a small business for pool cleaning and we needed to have a calculator so we could quickly add checks and credit card payments for deposits at the bank. I ordered this online based on reviews, and it is a little bit more than what I needed. It does (obviously)addition and subtraction, but how you turn it off and other functions are a little bit more complicated and I’ve had to refer to the manual many many times. If you are a beginner just get a basic calculator if you are needing some thing a little bit more accounting-like this would be perfect for you. I’m definitely keeping it because it works, but I don’t think I needed something as advanced as this one, it is definitely for a true accountant or bookkeeper.

    How to calculate a calculator

No instructions at all. Not even how/when it turns it self off. “-“ usually means to subtract. Not here. I don’t know why it’s so difficult for a calculator to calculate. Geeeez. I think I need to return this over priced price piece of plastic

Not worth the time and trouble

Item arrived with something sticky all over the box. No instruction sheet inside the box and the thing would not turn off. You had to remove the batteries to shut it down. Would not buy again.

    Excellent accounting calculator!

I bought this calculator for use at my home office, and it is amazing! I love being able to review back on the numbers in my calculating reel… As I handle mortgages and lots of numbers daily. I noticed people were complaining about the calculator, not subtracting correctly, but this is an accounting calculator, you don’t use it the same way that you would use a regular simple calculator… For its intents and purposes, it is wonderful! It is great being able to have no wires, move it around my desk freely and saves paper and ink!!

    Could have been better

My only complaint is the top that flips up to show what calculations have been entered. This part takes the place of a paper tape feed and the problem is it is so hard to see. It does NOT light up like the calculator face. I have to pull it up close to view anything on the flip top and aim it just right for the light to hit it. Great idea to avoid paper but poor design in my opinion. Seller was great – fast delivery.

Uses 10-key Notation.. NOT a normal calculator

I bought the EL-1901 first, and while I liked it a lot, it just took up too much space on my small desk. I really wanted the paperless printing options, so was happy to find the EL-1501. At least, until I tried to actually use it. Don’t expect to be able to enter 2+2=4, and have the equal sign work the way you expect it to. As another reviewer noted, this calculator uses 10-key notation, which requires a different way of entering numbers to get the result you expect. It’s not really that hard to learn, but I’m not likely to remember it in a pinch when I’m trying to get a total calculated. Disappointed, but this is going back.

    GREAT CALCULATOR

This is the best! You don’t have to have paper for it but you can see where you left off or if you forgot something. I needed it because I do accounting and it is my most useful tool. The one on my computer is useful my sometimes you just need to have a calculator on your desk.

    Cord Free!!

Wish they did this one size up battery operated. I love that it doesn’t need paper or to be plugged in, but I miss the larger size of the 1801.I have been using this model for a year or two in different offices. The Size of the EL-1801 is still more comfortable but I love being able to move it around without having to unplug it when I need my desktop for paper sorting.

    LOVE the concept

Didn’t have the feel of a real adding machine 🙁 too much sponge feel in the buttons. Button a little too close together. Maybe I should have bought a bigger one. Not sure if they make them bigger, but man I love the concept.

    Love the screen

I haven’t used an adding machine for some time and was searching for new calculators equipped with a display history feature for handling long sequences of numbers. Previously, I utilized my TI-86 due to its larger screen, although it wasn’t ideal for this specific purpose. During my accounting classes, we were required to practice with 10-key machines, but I rarely used them beyond that context. Intrigued by this device, I decided to try it out and have been loving it so far. The instructions were absent from the box, leading me to watch tutorial videos and consult the online PDF from Sharp’s website to fully understand its features. Ultimately, I mastered all the functions and am quite satisfied with my experience. The logic of the adding machine is distinct yet straightforward to adapt to, and I find it beneficial for tax and finance tasks. The history/tape feature on the display is fantastic, allowing me to verify my calculations for any mistakes.

    Paperless calculator

I’m very happy with this little battery operated calculator. The fold up display makes it easy to see if you put in an inaccurate number in your calculation for your review before you settle on the final answer it has multi functions and is doing everything I wanted from a small calculator without having a paper tape.

Nice accounting calculator without the paper.

I was looking for a calculator that I could easily look back at the history of what I was calculating so having the screen with the history on this was the main selling point. This is my first time using an accounting style calculator so the addition and subtraction works a little differently then other calculators I have used but once I got use to that it was all good. The buttons are big and easy to use. The screens are nice and easy to read. This foot print of this calculator is bigger than other desktop calculators I’ve seen but that ok for me. I have had this calculator with 6 months and batteries are going strong. Time will tell on durability. I’m happy with the product and glad I purchased this one over others.

    Good for the right person

My front desk administrator needed a new calculator, and she wanted something with large buttons like her old calculator. Years before she had a printing calculator but put that aside. She often has to tally 30 to 40 checks and having a printing calculator can be handy. This seemed like a good compromise and between a printing and non-printing calculator, and I didn’t mind spending the extra on it for a good piece of equipment for her.Unfortunately, she didn’t like it. Like an adding machine, the + sign must be used at the end of summing instead of the = sign and other quirks with its operation had her frustrated with it. It was nice to have the list of entries and not have the hassle of keeping thermal paper, but it was bigger than she liked and she said she’d rather have a traditional calculator. It also required several batteries that solar calculator don’t rely on.I’m giving it to my bookkeeper and will see if she likes it instead of returning it, and got my FDA a large-size, cheaper, no frills calculator that she’s much happier with.

    Typical Adding Machine

I got this to replace my old adding machine that several keys had quit functioning on, from years of everyday use. I purchased this because it was battery operated and my COVID home office is lacking in electrical outlets. It functions like a typical adding machine, and if you read the instructions you will understand how to use the flip up screen. All in all I’m happy with this machine; it does what I need it to do and all the keys work again.

No ink, no paper, a joy to use. No entry edit.

This review is for the compact version EL-1501.I work from home a few days a week and my desk, complete with dual monitors has little space left. I absolutely need a printing calculator as I am prone to inverting numbers. This calculator gets the job done. It’s lightweight, no power cord to get in the way, the readout is big and bright. The readout is easy to read. The secondary “paper” screen needs to be adjusted for best viewing angle though. This functions just like the office calculators I have been using for the last 40 years. The keys are large enough to use comfortably and are not too sensitive.I love the results screen that lets me review my entries. It did take me a minute to figure out how to get back to input mode after reviewing on the upper screen.Forget about trying to read the manual! It’s 1 folded page with instructions in English and Spanish. The type size is about 1/4 of that of a phone book. You’re better off downloading the PDF manual and zooming in.I like this so much I purchased a second one for my desk at the office. Since we are no longer allowed to keep anything on our desks and must clear everything off when we leave, we have to carry everything back and forth in a little caddy and store our stuff in a small locker box. This is small enough and very light so toting back and forth is a breeze.Batteries are rated to last about a year with normal use. There’s also an auto shutoff which helps. One last thing I want to address: It seems that some reviews for the larger version complain about not being able to clear the upper screen. Some have stated that you need to press the tiny reset button while others have listed magical voodoo motions to clear the screen. Not so with the smaller model. All you do is press the “2nd” key followed by the back arrow key and poof! All gone! Plus the keys are right next to each other. Maybe it works differently on the larger model. This calculator is a joy to use. It’s a bit more expensive than the compact printing calculators, but well worth it as there’s no additional ink or paper costs.I just wish it had the edit feature of its bigger brother.

    Easy to read

I like this model of calculator and the fact that it does not require paper. The screen is easy to read. I do wish it had basic instructions. As it had been a while since I’ve used an ” adding machine” and I needed a refresher on how to use it. Overall I like it, good size.

    Works great

Likes: Battery powered, does not need to be tethered to an outlet. Keys are large. Keys are responsive, do not stick, action is quick. Paperless printout is a great idea. I suspect other companies will copy this design. Easy to review previous entries using the paperless printout. Very compact for a desktop adding machine. It’s half the size of my 25 year old Canon MP21D that it replaces. Percentages work the same as the Canon machine, i.e. 100 x 20% – = 80. Entries are the same as an adding machine, i.e. 100 + 90 + 70 – = 120. Display is bright.Dislikes: Floating, decimal places, round up are all setup by the function key labeled “2nd”. I would prefer a switch for those. I can adapt. I will just need to make a cheat sheet for quick reference. Two of us in the office have used this machine for a about a week. We both love the portability of the thing. No searching for a wall outlet. I’m right handed so I keep it within reach of my right hand. The lefty that uses it can very easily move it to the other side of the desk. Battery life is an unknown at this point. If it eats batteries, I’ll buy the 1.5V lithium ion rechargeable AA batteries and keep a set charged and ready to go. Sharp says about six months for one hour per day of use.

THE PERFECT PAPERLESS NUMBER CHECKING CALCULATOR

I find this paperless Sharp calculator an absolute timesaver without the problems associated with a regular calculator. Or the size or bulk of a regular printing calculator. It’s small yet not too small and fits the hand comfortably with large good sized keys and a clear flip up LED display with green numerals on the main display. I got the portable version which I’ve been using now for about three months and the battery uses is still going strong. So I recommend the portable for its take along practicality rather than the plug-in. This paperless calculator just saves so much time. Like if you must go back four or 5,6,7 or 10 lines of entry to check to see that you put the right number in instead of clearing out and starting over again with a regular calculator. Plus no hassle with paper ! For the money, key size, and backtracking ability it’s a clear winner. It stops you from wasting time with the problem of going back without the ability to check your previous entries. This Sharp calculator is a first class winner and I highly recommend it.Bernie Pankowski

    Mushy keys

It works as long as you understand the functions, but I can’t get past how mushy the keys are. I miss digits frequently if I’m not paying very close attention. For anything more than a couple numbers, it’s often more efficient to use a calculator app on a computer.

Screen is great but buttons don’t always work

I like the digital screen which was the entire reason I purchased this for work but here are the cons:1. Scrolling back through your screen doesn’t mean you can backtrack and correct any errors, which is unfortunate bc that would be so helpful.2. The buttons sometimes stick or just won’t register at all which is a huge pain when you’re going through tons of calculations and realize you have to start over even though you pressed all the right keys.3. For $50 I expect the buttons to work properly, which they don’t.Pros:Nice large display and ability to correct a line when you’re physically working within the line is nice at least.

    work for what I need

Work for what I need. But the only down side I found are 1) When you tap the arrow to the top or bottom to see what you did, the total disappear and only shown a few number which is very confuse to track. 2) The machine has an automatic shut off so if you don’t use for awhile, It will turn off and the number will disappear. The best thing is it cordless and it can be use anywhere.

Not as good as I expected

I had hoped this calculator would have had better instructions on simply use, the more complicated use was not as important to me. It seems cheap, kinda rattles on the table. The paper less screen function is very helpful and it is a good size for desk accounting. It was not one of the most expensive ones available so i guess that makes a difference.

I bought this unit thinking it was a battery-operated EL-1901 with the entry correct feature. It is not. Whereas the model 1901 will allow one to correct an entry, the 1501 will not. I specifically need that ability and called a Sharp tech to inquire. He stated that once a number has been entered on the 1501 it cannot be edited. I will exchange the 1501 for the 1901 which allows for editing. I wish there was a battery-operated EL-1901. TMc

Benefits of a traditional adding machine without the paper

Over all I’m pretty happy with this calculator. I bought the EL-1501. One change I would make is for the keys to be soft touch like a calculator, which is what I expected. Instead they’re like an adding machine’s keys. So not being used to an adding machine sometimes I don’t punch a key hard enough and I enter the wrong amount. But I really like that I can check myself on the screen without having to repeat. Yet not needing to buy paper.

Using this daily for 3 months

I am an accountant from the old school that grew up using a 10 key calculator. With work from home, I needed something light weight to replace my Sharp desk adding machine left back in the office. This works great and I use it at least a dozen times per day. It is lightweight, smaller than an adding machine and works much better than a calculator. It is like using an adding machine (10 key) without the paper. No cords, runs on batteries and shuts itself off without use. I would highly recommend.

    Good Quality

I wasn’t sure about this, but once I got it, I really like it. I like that fact that the screen lights up. I like the flip up screen. It’s just nicer and easier to use than I expected. The keys have a nice feel to them.I would recommend.

Could not read the user quide, not user friendly like Canon

I am returning this. I have been using a Canon for years. It was great, no problems, but it broke. I deciced to try this Sharp. The User’s Guide is a long 2 sided PDF-style form, with multiple languages side-by-side in print so small that even with my reading glasses, it’s hard to track the words and symbols in nearly each line.IT TAKES A CALCULATION TO MOVE THE DECIMAL POINT!

    Does not register keys

The product has some great features that I really like. It does have a history feature you can scroll through to see past inputs instead of using printer paper. What I do not like about it is you really have to slam the keys to get them to register. My prior adding machine was also a Sharp but the power button broke so I had to replace it. The prior machine you barely had to touch the buttons to get them to register. I am very fast with the keyboard and this is a pain in the rear. Constantly have to go back and check to make sure all figures registered correctly.

    Very Portable

I love this calculator. It is the right size, very portable and the price was right for me. The only small problem I had was with some of the instructions, for instance I wanted my amount digit set for 2 figures after the amount I added and I get it after a dollar amount ending in zeros but not if there is cents. I haven’t figured that out yet. If anyone finds the solution, please post it.

Love not having to worry about paper

Love not having to worry about paper jams or paper running out. The key could have been a little softer and I wish the screen was backlighted
