    Reasonable price . Easy operation.

    Not my first printing calculator but this one is very fast and the keyboard layout is excellent.Has several functions that I don’t need to tabulate monthly expenses but they don’t get in the way.Definitely recommend this product from a know brand

    Awesome replacement for my ancient 10-key calculator!

    It is an awesome replacement for my ancient old 10-key calculator that finally died. It is more streamlined and seems to take up less room on a smallish desk. Works well… just a few differences that I am used to already.

    Read This Before You Buy

    This calculator worked great for the 10 months I’ve had it. Now — and as several others have pointed out — the printing motor does NOT stop running. It doesn’t matter if you turn off printing, the motor keeps running. The calculator still functions, but the printing mechanism just keeps running, even when not printing. Did I mention it KEEPS RUNNING! Even when turned off!!! It only stops if unplugged. You can still use it, so long as you don’t mind it sounding like a hair dryer even when NOT printing. This turned out to be a poor quality machine and a waste of money for having it less than a year. It’s only warranted for 6 months. Do yoursel a favor and AVOID this calculator.UPDATE – I increased my rating to 4 stars. I called the company and told them about this issue. They responded by saying that they were aware of a small number of defective units with this problem and they sent me a brand new replacement. The new one is the exact same model but it now has an A/C adapter which you need to plug into the back of the calculator. The display is also a bit different in that it is more green and the numbers are larger. Not a big deal, and I’m happy with the end result.

    Great Value for the Cost

    I have a home office, this is very similar to one that I use at work. It is simple to use, easy to read, has nice large buttons and digital screen. The paper works great, displaying nice clear figures. I am extremely happy with this brand for my purposes. And I use it several times a week doing a lot of number crunching.

    Tactile keys, smaller design, outstanding performance!

    I have been using calculators all my life from a Monroe, Canon and Sharp and still prefer the Sharp brand. What I’ve noticed about the EL-1801V is there are two variations of the same model. This Amazon choice DOES NOT HAVE THE DATE/TIME feature used to set the tax rate. This means this Amazon model also uses no replaceable battery on the underside to store tax rates. I see no need for the calendar and clock as they’re more of a pain to use so no big deal. The TAX RATE is easily stored by a sequence of C/CE presses in lieu of the calendar/clock button. This seems like a major improvement requiring fewer buttons to use setting the tax rate and not worrying about battery power (why require a battery when it’s plugged in the AC outlet in the first place)?This little gem has so many important features like a smaller footprint for desk use. Yes, the speed is not as fast as many others with ribbon ink but this IS a smaller unit. If you need printer speed, never opt for ink rollers because the character wheel has to spin for each character unlike a fixed character striking a ribbon as typewriters do providing lightning fast response time.The tactile keys are the best in its class, way better than many others. Only a modest touch will render a response unlike some requiring a harder depression. The spacing of the keys for a smaller unit is as good as the large units. The bright fluorescent display is appealing. It is extremely lightweight. In fact the box was so light I thought it was empty! The plastic is taut and durable (as with all Sharp calculators) and not pliable like the cheaper Casio models.The only setback I have is with the AVERAGE feature. In order to use AVG, you must engage the printer feature. Often to save ink, paper and wear and tear on the print mechanism, I prefer using only the display. On this machine, AVG will only work using the PRINT option despite the incorrect example in the instruction manual.From the top view unlike other calculators, the fingerboard area is actually WIDER whereas the printer section towards the back is narrower since this does not require an ink ribbon. Still the overall footprint is amazing!

    Easy to use, but paper load not intuitive

    Works great, but I had to go to youtube to find out how to load the paper. That would be my only complaint, otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.

    Best Gift!

    I bought this for my grandson who wants to be a cashier at Target. I looked at play cash registers, and they were so flimsy and cheap. I decided to get this calculator for him (10 yrs. old) so that he could print off receipts for his “customers.” He went through the roll of paper provided on the first day. Definitely buy extra tape, as the one that comes with the machine is very small.

    iT DOESN’T TAKE UP A LOT OF DESKTOP SPACE

    I like how bright this machine display is and it prints fine, a negative is in red. It’s not too loud but it is slow if you are a 10 keyer. I am and its ok, I’ll just enter my numbers a little slower but for the money its ok, I didn’t want to spend a $100. I manage property and am a probate administrator so I use an adding machine a lot to run a tape to make sure my numbers are right when something isn’t making sense. Display is big and bright and the tape isn’t hard to read. I’d buy it again if the speed didn’t matter

    Replaced My old Sharps

    Adding machine not a calculator

    Over all I like the layout and features. That said to call it a printing calculator is incorrect. It is an adding machine. The difference is in when you press the +, – keys the number that follows is either a positive or negative number. A calculator when you press the same keys the number that follow is either added or subtracted . Sounds the same but it isn’t.

    This is a workhorse calculator!

    I moved across the country last year. Having retired the year prior, I really didn’t think I would have use of my calculator any longer. So I donated it along with about 90% of what I owned. I’ve been in my new home for 8 months now and the ONE item I missed, and it was when I was getting my taxes together, was my calculator! So I bought a new one having had my old one for at least 15 years. It’s funny after a life acquiring so many things with a family that I haven’t missed anything I donated. Only my cakculatkr!

    EL-1801V preliminary review

    Haven’t had much usage yet to provide a full review.Several things that kept us from providing a 5 star.No 1. is the unit is not like the advertised display!Item shows a blue vacuum tube display, but this one is a green LCD!No 2. Is the unit uses a ac to DC adapter instead of the advertised AC plug in!(These two advertised features are what I was looking for).No 3. Is the paper roll was about 3/8 in roll size, with maybe 5ft paper on it. Not that concerning tho, just would have been a good gesture to provide at least a partial roll.Not sure if the unit sent to us is from another version?The box shows EL-1801V but also has a “L” out from the model number, but no indication about it.Definitely not the advertised image / description!Further testing will have to be done to provide an updated review.
